Almost 90 jurisdictions around the world have commenced automatic exchange of financial account information (AEOI). While tax transparency and cooperation has progressed steadily over the past decade, the widespread implementation of AEOI is a game changer for tax evaders, including corrupt officials, seeking to hide their assets in foreign financial accounts. Developing countries  have not been expected to implement AEOI as quickly as more advanced economies, but the benefit of AEOI in combatting illicit financial flows can make a real difference for these economies.

This session will examine the role that exchange of information, and AEOI data in particular, can play in combatting corruption, including through inter-agency cooperation, and give the perspective of developing countries in their fight against illicit financial flows
